Unusual Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Edgefield District or Columbia, SC origin, third quarter 19th century, ovoid, bowl-shaped jar with footed base and squared rim, the surface covered in a mottled green, gray, and brown alkaline glaze with green runs descending from the interior and exterior shoulder. The only South Carolina stoneware piece of this form that we have seen. Provenance: Richard and Cindy Pearce Collection. Excellent condition with a minor rim chip, a 1 3/4" surface fissure to midsection, not visible on interior, and a number written in yellow crayon on underside. H 6 5/8" ; Diam. 9".
