Very Rare Glazed Earthenware Razorback Hog Bank, Incised on Underside "Made by / W.J. Smith / Bridgeton / NJ," circa 1875, in the form of a wide-bodied razorback hog on circular pedestal base, the hog with raised and incised hairy spine, impressed circular eyes, incised muzzle, and applied ears. Carved slot in body. Surface decorated with manganese and covered in a lead glaze over a bright yellow ground. Incised on underside with inscription from potter William Smith of Bridgeton, NJ. Exceptional figural form by a rare NJ maker. Restoration to ears and tail. A tiny chip to lower lip. Length 6 1/2".
