Fine Slip-Decorated Stoneware Spaniel, Midwestern origin, late 19th century, molded figure of a seated spaniel on slab base with canted corners, the surface covered in Bristol slip and profusely-decorated with brushed spots and highlights throughout, applied in dark-blue cobalt slip and a mixed blue-and-brown slip composed of cobalt and Albany slip. Incised details to muzzle and paws. Unusual petite size, strong decoration, and whimsical facial expression. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a very minor in-the-making chip to base. H 7" ; L 5 1/4" ; W 3 1/2".
