One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Manganese Decoration, Inscribed "G.N. Fulton," Alleghany County, VA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, brush-decorated in reddish-brown manganese with a triple-stemmed tulip surrounded by swags and foliate devices. Inscribed "G.N. Fulton" below in brushed manganese script. A few rim chips. Rim wear. A 3" hairline from rim on front. An in-the-firing contact mark to midsection on front. Staining to surface and some surface residue. H 9 7/8".
