Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. MANTELL / PENN YAN," circa 1856-1876, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with flowering plant bearing ten stylized blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A thin 8 1/2" vertical crack extending through right side of decoration. A minor chip and minor wear to inner rim for lid. H 13 3/8".
