Rare Glazed Redware Flowerpot with Ring Handles, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid pot with attached saucer, coggled embellishments to rim of pot and saucer, and molded handles in the form of a hand holding a ring. Surface decorated with manganese sponging under a clear lead glaze. Among the finer Bell family flowerpots that we have offered, featuring a rarely-seen molded handle construction and unsual ovoid form with coggled treatment. Provenance: Ex-George McKearin Collection of American Pottery, No. 553; the flowerpot includes its McKearin Collection sticker. Excellent condition with a thin, shallow 3/4" flake to underside of saucer's rim, minor nicks to saucer's rim, a small in-the-firing lime ping to front, and very minor surface wear. H 7 3/8" ; Diam. (across flowerpot's rim) 6 1/4".
