Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Bold Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with a thickly-brushed design of eight grapes hanging from a vine, flanked by two leaves and thin tendrils. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing iron ping to reverse. A small in-the-firing iron ping to right side of jug. A small in-the-firing contact mark to left side of jug. A minor inverted U-shaped surface line to spout. Staining to surface. Two shallow in-the-firing chips to underside. H 14 1/4".
