Fine and Very Rare Miniature Stoneware Pitcher with Incised Birds Decoration, attributed to Chester Webster, Randolph County, NC, mid 19th century, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with heavy tooling where the collar meets the body, decorated with an incised anthemion motif flanked by two crested birds perched on stylized grounds. Delicate incised details throughout. Impressed circular eyes to birds and two impressed circles at base of anthemion motif. Handle terminals decorated with incised drapes accented with impressed circles. Salt-glazed surface over dipped, reddish-brown iron-oxide solution. An earlier work by Webster, featuring exceptional size and rare depiction of two birds. Provenance: Previously descended in the Webster family. A 2 1/4" x 7/8" restored section to rim. Handle restored. H 4 1/2".
