Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin-Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly-ovoid jar with angular rim and arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed kaolin slip design of three daisies conjoined at the stem. Brushed iron slip decoration to handles. Gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Restoration to large section of one handle. Opposite handle with an in-the-firing crack. A restored 1" chip to top of rim. A few minor nicks to interior of rim. H 15".
