One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, brush-decorated around the shoulder with swags over slip-coated clay. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a recessed in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder, and tiny in-the-firing nick to shoulder molding, the underside with two in-the-firing surface fissures and a tiny surface line. H 10 1/2".
