Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical form with concave walls, footed base, recessed opening in top, and carved oval opening at shoulder; decorated around the body with a garland of leaves. Additional brushwork around opening at shoulder. A tight 2 1/4" Y-shaped crack running horizontally at rim. A second, thin meandering crack at rim, measuring approximately 4". An overfired spot to one side. Diam. 7 1/4" ; H 4 1/8".
