One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay tabs fitted with a wood-and-wire bail handle, brush-decorated on the reverse with a large horizontal tulip motif. Front decorated with wreath around base of spout. Cobalt highlights to applied clay ears and handle terminals. Includes tin lid and spout cover. Very nice condition. Some fry to cobalt, a salt drip to spout, an extemely minor 1/4" surface line to spout, and some staining. H 8".
