Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "Haught & Co. / Shinnston. W. Va.," circa 1880, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the diagonal maker's stenciling "Haught & Co. / Shinnston. W.Va." with stenciled flourishes. The stencil has been altered to cover the name, Knox, indicating his departure from the firm. A small brushed-cobalt flower appears on the jar's right side. A 5 1/4" hairline across underside, continuing 4 1/4 up side of jar. A small chip to inner wax sealer rim and a 1 3/4" in-the-firing surface crack to interior, not visible on exterior. H 10 1/4".
