Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Rose Motif, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO.," PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring two stenciled rose motifs above arched James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Stenciled 5" flanked by stenciled flourishes at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Staining to surface. A small chip and minor nick to bottom edge of rim. Wear to edge of one handle. H 15 1/2".
