Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Cornucopia Decoration, Stamped "A.O. WHITTEMORE / HAVANA. N.Y.," circa 1870, wide-based, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a stylized, slip-trailed design of a cornucopia with crosshatched and spotted details, flanked by two cobalt-script "3's." The first Whittemore piece featuring this design that we have offered. A tight 6 3/4" spider crack descending from spout on side of jug. A faint 1 3/4" hairline from spout. A tiny base chip. Staining to surface. Spot of old black paint to handle. H 14 1/2".
