Exceptional Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a daisy plant with large cross-hatched blossom, leaves, looping trails, and a smaller blossom at the rear. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Featuring a design that appears loosely-based on the Rochester, New York style, this jug is the first example of Norton stoneware design that we have offered decorated in this manner.
