Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration and Michigan Advertising, attributed to Samuel Hart, Fulton, NY, mid 19th century, squat-shaped jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted body, perched on a looping flourish. Slip-trailed "2" to the right with dramatic flourish below. Impressed at the shoulder with the extensive advertising, "COOK AUSTIN & SHERMAN / DEALERS IN DRY GOODS / GROCERIES HARD WARE DRUGS & C / BROOKLYN MICH." Very nice condition with an approximately 4" horizontal hairline below upper handle terminal, some staining to surface, and some light wear to cobalt. H 12 1/2".
