Rare Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Pineapple Decoration, Inscribed "pine / apple", Stamped "W A MACQUOID & CO / POTTERY WORKS / LITTLE 12TH ST. / NEW YORK", circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flared rim, decorated with a brushed design of a pineapple, flanked by the words "pine" and "apple". Cobalt highlight to capacity mark. Includes 19th century salt-glazed stoneware lid, probably not original to the jar. Jar in very nice condition with a 1 1/2" U-shaped surface crack at base, not visible on interior, minor wear to inner rim for lid, light water glass staining on exterior and water glass staining to interior. Lid with two large chips to knob.
