Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Decoration of a Man's Face, Stamped "W.A. MACQUOID & CO. / POTTERY / WORKS. / LITTLE 12TH ST, / NEW YORK.," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a man's face with beard and mustache looking to the side. Cobalt highlights to capacity mark and base of maker's mark. A 4" hairline from rim on reverse. A faint 1 3/4" surface line from rim on front, not visible on interior. Interior of rim with a small chip, minor flake, and tiny nick. H 9".
