Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER. / ROCHESTER," NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a wreath with bow surrounding the number "2." Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Wear and 1" crack to edge of one handle. A tiny nick to opposite handle. A 4" cross-shaped line near base below one handle. Staining to reverse. Water glass staining to interior. A 6 1/2" Y-shaped line to underside. Small in-the-firing chips to bottom edge. H 11".
