Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A,J, BUTTLER, / MANUFACTERUR(sic) / NEW-BRUNSWICK, N J," circa 1862-1872, ovoid pitcher footed base, tall, flaring collar, and semi-squared rim, brush-decorated with a flowering plant emanating from a stylized ground with grasses. Striped decoration to spout and cobalt-script "3" below. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable form and exceptional size. A thin 5" crack to left of spout. A small spout chip. A 7/8" line to rim on reverse. Front with a glazed-over, in-the-firing ping and two minor iron pings. H 14 3/4".
