Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Dead Bird Motif, attributed to the Fulper Pottery, Flemington, NJ, fourth quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of an upside-down bird laying in thick grasses. Excellent decoration and desirable form. A 2" flake to rim on reverse. Two other small rim chips. A thin 4 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. A few small in-the-firing iron pings to interior. Dimensions: 9 1/8" x 12 1/8".
