One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Butterfly Decoration, Stamped "JULIUS NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1841-1844, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a finely-brushed design of a butterfly at the midsection. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 1 3/4" hairline from rim on side of jar. A 4 3/4" Y-shaped surface line to underside, not visible on interior. Chips to interior of rim and inner rim for lid. A 2 1/2" horizontal surface line below one handle, not visible on interior. Some staining. H 9 3/4".
