Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Tulip Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A 1" in-the-firing base chip on reverse. An approximately 7" x 4 1/4" star-shaped spider line on reverse. Three small chips to interior of rim. Two minor chips to one handle. A thin 3" diagonal crack at base, continuing 1 1/4" onto underside. Some staining to reverse. H 11 1/4".
