One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. SWANK & CO. / JOHNSTOWN, PA," circa 1870, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and heavily-tooled rim, brush-decorated across the body with a sweeping stem bearing two tulip blossoms. Spout with vertical foliate brushwork. Large freehand dashes to sides of collar. Base of handle with brushed tulip and cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Spout chips. Several rim chips. Two cracks from side of rim, measuring 7" and 4 3/8". A 1 1/4" hairline from rim. An in-the-firing surface chip to far right side of pitcher's front. Fry to cobalt. A minor base chip. A small in-the-firing base chip and two in-the-firing chips to underside. H 11 1/4".
