Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BALLARD VALE / STONE WARE.MF.G.C.," MA origin, circa 1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing three blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 3 1/2" diagonal line from rim on reverse. Some fry to cobalt on two left flowers. Small chips to interior of rim. H 11 5/8".
