Exceptional Small-Sized Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "BOSTON, / 1804," Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, early 19th century, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, featuring dipped iron-oxide decoration to the upper and lower body, applied under a clear salt glaze. The unusual form and size of this jar suggest it was possibly made as a bean pot or sugar jar. Three rim chips and a tiny in-the-firing rim ping. A 4 1/2" hairline from rim on front. A few in-the-firing iron pings to surface. H 7 1/2" ; Diam. (at rim) 6 3/8".
