Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Deer Scene, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO," Charlestown, Mass., origin, circa 1860, straight-sided crock with handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt scene of a large stag with spotted body and turned head, seated on a hill. The deer is flanked on the left and right by trees and split-rail fences, and a longer fence stretches across the crock"s front in the foreground, with slip-trailed shrubs on each. Excellent color and folky style. As-made condition, with a small glazed-over stone ping on the front, and a stone ping on the rim. H 9".
