Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER JR. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.," circa 1885, large-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with turned head and detailed feathering, perched on a leafy branch. Slip-trailed "6" to shoulder. Desirable size and decoration. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Excellent condition with some staining and an area of old green paint residue to reverse. H 14 1/4".
