Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Heart Decoration, attributed to the Pfaltzgraff Pottery, York, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with slightly-flared spout, decorated with an intricate cobalt design of a heart flanked by swags and wheat stalks. Decoration embellished with profuse cobalt spotting throughout, including spotted floral motifs within the heart. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Among the finest examples of Pfaltzgraff stoneware that we have offered in recent years. A 1" x 7/8" flake to spout and a 7/8" in-the-firing contact mark to side of jug. H 11".
