Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1880, wide bowl with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stylized stenciled design with scalloped border. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced PA collection, purchased by the consignor between 1963 and 1975. Two in-the-firing surface chips (contact marks) at base. Additional in-the-firing residue at base. In-the-firing separations to handles. Dimensions: 12 1/2" x 6 1/4".
