One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a stylized stenciled design with scrolled border. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and upper handle terminal. Lower handle terminal with brushed, stylized flower blossom. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced PA collection, purchased by the consignor between 1963 and 1975. A 1 1/2" x 1 3/8" flake to interior of rim. Spout chips. Some minor bubbling to cobalt. H 11".
