Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed design of a curving, leafy stem bearing two well-detailed flowers with stamens. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A crack across underside forming a top-to-bottom spider crack on right side of jug. This crack additionally continues from underside several inches up reverse of jug. A 1 1/8" glazed-over iron ping to reverse. A crack through upper handle terminal, including a tiny chip. Staining. Black residue to underside along edge. H 15".
