Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a artistic brushed design of a flowering plant with large central blossom flanked by two stems bearing thirteen buds. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A significant spider crack to left side of jug's front, which includes a horizontal crack through middle of design and another crack running horizontally at base on reverse. Additional thinner cracks to base and area below design. Some staining. H 15 1/2".
