Exceptional Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WM. MOYER / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1858-1861, large-sized, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed design of a tulip plant bearing four blossoms with large stamens. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. The largest Moyer jug that we have ever offered. Excellent condition with a small chip to base of handle as well as the following in-the-firing flaws: a 2 1/4" flake to bottom edge, iron pings, a small contact mark, and a short surface fissure to upper handle terminal. H 18 3/4".
