Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, ovoid jar with tall, flaring collar and arched tab handles, decorated on one side with a triple-stemmed clover plant and on the reverse with a double-stemmed clover plant surrounding a tulip. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and vertical dashes of cobalt below each handle. Provenance: The Estate of Susan H. Myers, author of Handcraft to Industry and former Smithsonian Curator of Ceramics and Glass. Excellent condition with two minor rim chips, two minor chips to one handle, a minor chip to opposite handle, a very minor base nick, a 4" in-the-firing surface crack to interior, not visible on exterior. H 11 1/8".
