Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a curved stem bearing open-centered clovers and graduated leaves, below a series of swags. Cobalt highlights over tops of handles and surrounding the terminals. Vertically-dashed brushwork below each handle. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some whitish discoloration to rim, small in-the-firing chips to one handle, and minor paint residue to surface. H 14 1/4".
