Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, wide-bodied, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and extruded lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a double-stemmed flowering plant design below a wavy stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with wavy cobalt brushwork below each handle. Scarce form. Excellent condition with one base chip. H 8 1/4" ; Diam. (at rim) 9".
