Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Philip Kabis, Shirleysburg, PA, circa 1870, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with brushed floral motifs in this distinctive Kabis style, applied over a slip-washed surface. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Brushed "3" under each handle. A 2" rim chip and other smaller rim chips. One handle with a 7/8" chip to terminal, a small adjacent chip, and wear to opposite terminal. A 2" hairline on underside, forming a long T at base. Jar is slightly out-of-round. H 11 1/2".
