Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "ALBANY N Y," probably R. O'Connell Pottery, Albany, NY, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird with heavily-detailed body, perched on a tree stump atop a stylized ground. Slip-trailed "2" above. Reverse impressed with "ALBANY N Y" maker's mark. Essentially as-made condition with some fry to cobalt, minor staining, and a tiny in-the-firing base chip. H 8 1/2".
