Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY, / N.Y. / POTTERY," NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of bird with crest and ringed neck, perched on a stylized, scrolled branch. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Spout chips on reverse. A faint 7/8" surface line on side of spout and a tiny nick to front of spout. Wear to base of handle. A salt drip at base on reverse. Some staining. A 1 3/8" in-the-firing surface fissure on underside, which does not extend through to interior. H 14".
