Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Milkpans, attributed to Ralph J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1880, half-gallon and one-gallon examples, both of flaring form with tooled shoulders, flattened rims, and pinched pouring spouts. Both with similar swag decoration, the smaller with additional dashes along spout. Smaller in excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. Larger with a thin crack from rim, forming a long Y on underside, and ascending a short distance up reverse. Dimensions (of smaller): 9" x 4 1/4".
