Extremely Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Tea Canister with Sgraffito Line Decoration, Southeastern PA origin, 18th or early 19th century, cylindrical form with footed base, tapered shoulder, and narrow mouth, the surface covered in a yellowish slip, heavily-decorated with copper-oxide, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Elaborate sgraffito decoration in the form of vertical wavy lines reveals the orange base clay below. Exceptional form, glaze, and decoration. A 4" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim with some chipping along crack. Glaze wear to angled edge of shoulder. Some small glaze flakes to body of canister. A small base chip. Expected wear to rim. H 6 3/4".
