One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, applied clay ears with wood-and-wire bail handle, and handle at base on reverse, decorated on the front with wreath-like brushwork at the base of the spout. Reverse decorated with an abstract stenciled design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, applied clay ears, and handle at base on reverse. Includes tin lid. A restored 1 1/2" section to handle at base on reverse. Minor roughness to spout. Some staining. H (excluding lid) 8 3/4".
