Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "A.P. DONAGHHO, / FREDERICKTOWN, PA," circa 1870, ovoid jar with flattened rim, featuring early A.P. Donaghho maker's stenciling above a stenciled design of a spread-winged eagle clutching arrows and carrying a banner in its beak, inscribed "Excelsior Pottery." Very nice condition with a faint 4" Y-shaped surface line on reverse and a faint 3" Y-shaped surface line on side of jar, both not visible on interior. H 9 3/4".
