Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "EAGLE POTTERY," James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle clutching arrows in one talon and holding a banner in its beak, inscribed "EAGLE POTTERY." Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Small chips to interior of rim. Tight surface cracks to shoulder area, not visible on interior. A 7/8" surface crack to rim. Minor chipping to shoulder molding. In-the-making ripply texture to section of clay near base on left side of jar's front. H 10".
