Five-Gallon Akaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Inscribed "Lm," Dave at Lewis Miles' Stony Bluff Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1855, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and arched lug handles, the shoulder deeply-incised with the initials, "Lm," and an X. Surface covered in a mottled alkaline glaze featuring olive-green coloration with orange spotting over much of surface and matte light-brown coloration to the left side. A 3/4" hole on side of jar, forming a larger flake on interior. One handle with a 1 7/8" chip, a small chip, and a minor nick. Three minor chips to bottom edge of rim. A thin 7 1/2" crack from rim. Some light scattered flakes to surface. Exfoliation to interior. Two short hairlines at base. H 14".
