Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "J. REMMEY. / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.," John Remmey III, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, cylindrical jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and squared rim, featuring cobalt highlights to the maker's mark of John Remmey III. This jar is the largest cylindrical-formed example by this potter that we have offfered. Provenance: From a recently surfaced collection. A crack extending from rim to underside on front. Additional cracks from rim. Cracks in underside. A reglued 4 1/4" section at base on reverse, with cracks extending upward from it. Crazing to base area. Rim chips. A chip to shoulder. Some typical in-the-firing flaws to surface. H 15".
