Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Peacock Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA.," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of peacock with elaborate crest, perched on a tree branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Fry to cobalt. Some minor exfoliation to bottom half of jar. Faint hairlines to shoulder on right side of jar's front and right side of jar. A minuscule nick to shoulder molding on front. A few minor base chips. Some staining. H 13 3/4".
