Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar or Churn, Stamped "E.S. CRAVEN," Enoch S. Craven, Randolph County, NC, circa 1855, approximately three-gallon, semi-ovoid churn with triangular coggled motifs to shoulder and arched strap handles with depressed terminals. Rim with original holes for closure, formed prior to firing. Impressed at shoulder with large Enoch S. Craven maker's mark. Includes later wooden lid and carved stick for securing lid. A 5 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on front, including a small rim chip. Significant spider cracks from rim on reverse, including a filled and colored rim chip. One handle reglued. H 15".
